The APT Darkness Clock (APT DC) is a complimentary application that offers users an ad-free experience, providing precise calculations for optimal times to engage in deep sky astrophotography or observation at chosen locations on specific nights. This tool serves as a specialized feature within the broader desktop application known as APT - Astro Photography Tool.
APT itself can be likened to a Swiss Army knife for astrophotographers. It offers a comprehensive suite of tools suitable for various imaging equipment, including Canon EOS, Nikon cameras, and both CCD and CMOS astro cameras. Users can leverage APT's capabilities for tasks such as planning, collimation, alignment, focusing, framing, plate solving, image control, synchronization, scheduling, analysis, monitoring, and much more. To effectively capture or observe faint deep sky objects, it is crucial to utilize the darkest periods of the night. This timeframe is defined as the period between the end of evening astronomical twilight and the beginning of morning astronomical twilight, alongside when the Moon is below the horizon. Within APT, this duration is referred to as DSD Time - Deep Sky Darkness Time.
The primary function of APT DC is to determine the duration of DSD Time and identify its start and end points based on selected nights and locations. Users have the option to use their current location or choose from three additional pre-saved observation sites.
